I’ve become super aware of my spending habits – good and bad. Since then, I decided to stop paying for particular things to save money. I know cutting these items out of my life won’t make a huge impact, but I would love to spend my money on other things I genuinely want.
Subscription Boxes
Recently, I tried BoxyCharm and FabFitFun, just to test them out. However, I have been an Ipsy subscriber since 2018. I have an abundance of makeup and beauty products that I need to use up – not collect more of. I haven’t canceled my subscription, but I have paused my monthly bag.
Money Saved Monthly: $13.88
Money Saved for the Rest of the Year: $83.28 – nearly $100!
TV
Disclaimer: I still live with my parents who have a cable subscription. However, I pay for our Hulu and Amazon Prime subscriptions. We really don’t have the time to watch movies or TV, so I’ve cut the Hulu (Amazon Video is included with Prime!)
Money Saved Monthly: $7.55
Money Saved for the Rest of the Year: $45.30
Food
Panera Coffee has an unlimited coffee subscription that you pay for monthly. I love this concept, and I wish Dunkin’ or Starbucks would roll out something similar (I can dream!) But in reality, I work from home, and I rarely leave the house in the morning. Especially for a coffee run. Let’s save that money instead.
Money Saved Monthly: $9.13
Money Saved for the Rest of the Year: $54.78
Business/Education
I am horrified. This business and education category contains items I paid for in college and previous jobs. I forgot I was paying for some items until I looked at my credit card statements. I had a Canva premium subscription, but now I can use my company’s account. There was a premium Adobe subscription- it’s now canceled; yay! The shocker was I found a Wix website domain that I was paying for – I’m not even using it. While this is a yearly subscription, I’ll keep the $26.52 instead.
Money Saved Monthly: $12.95 (Canva) + $15.22 (Adobe) = $28.17
Money Saved for the Rest of the Year: $77.70 (Canva) + $91.32 (Adobe) + $15.22 (Wix) = $184.24
Drumroll please!
The grand total:
Money Saved Monthly: $58.73
Money Saved for the Rest of the Year: $367.60
This was an incredibly eye-opening experience, and I highly encourage you to go through your financial statements to see what subscriptions you can cut. Then, feel free to save the money, pay off some debt, or spend it on your current hobbies or interests.
Cheers!
Lydia
