I Started a Book Club!

This month, I started a book club with a few sorority sisters. Yay! We all love reading, and I’m surprised it took us this long to create our group.

The hardest part was determining our first book club pick. I had searched Goodreads for the most popular choices and didn’t find anything that stood out to me. So then, I tried to get inspiration from Pop Sugar’s 2022 Reading Challenge. Unfortunately, the Pop Sugar challenge is more about finding books that meet specific prompt criteria, i.e., read a book that starts with a certain letter instead of helping us pick out a book to read.

This Month’s Pick?

I stumbled upon  The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. It was a popular book we had seen on #BookTok numerous times but hadn’t actually read. We decided this was a perfect first pick!

Logistics

We will be discussing the book virtually via Zoom later this month for our first book club meeting. We live up north, and I’m hoping we get to meet at a winery or a restaurant that has outdoor seating when the weather gets nicer. Fortunately, the author has a list of book club questions on her website that I plan on using to lead our discussion. I can’t even imagine coming up with my prompts for us to discuss.

I cannot wait to get this book club rolling and outline the picks for the rest of this year. If you stumble across this post, I hope you take it as inspiration to form a book club with your close friends or family.

Speaking of inspiration, if you have any favorite reads, please send me your recommendations! I’d love to incorporate a variety of reads. I’m thinking next month we will do a popular YA book, but we’ll see!

As always, connect with me on Goodreads.
Happy reading!
Lydia
