My School Supplies List for Comm Majors

Hey there! As an enneagram three and Virgo, school supply shopping is one of my favorite things. As a Public Relations and Communications major, I like to have specific items for each semester. Here are my recommendations for school supplies for all the Communications majors out there.

The Basics:

  • One 5 Subject Notebook. I’m 100% a paper notes person. I use a single, 5 subject notebook for all my classes each semester. That way, everything is in one place, I don’t have to worry about swapping out school supplies for different classes, and when I have down time, I can review for other classes.
  • One 1″ Binder plus Tab Dividers. I’ll use the binder for my syllabuses and any PowerPoint lecture notes. Again, keeping everything in one spot is key.
  • Pencils. Specifically, the BIC mechanical pencils.
  • Pens. My favorites are the Pilot G2 pens and the PaperMate flair pens.
  • Post-it Notes. I’m one of those people who can’t stand to write or highlight in textbooks. Thus, the Post-it Notes
  • Computer. Enough said.
  • Planner. This semester, I’m using my Passion Planner to help me keep track of assignments, deadlines, socials, sporting events – you name it! The Weekly planners are my favorite. Here’s their academic planner that similar to the one I use. For 10% off your own Passion Planner, use my code, LYDIA10.

Bonus Supplies:

  • SD Cards. I was in a film class that required us to edit our own videos. While they provided the cameras, we had to provide the SD cards. I recommend purchasing at least one or two 64 GB SD cards.
  • Flashdrive. Personally, I love being able to work on things on my own time, especially after class. In addition to emailing myself the project I was working on, I would also save the files to a flashdrive. When working in a computer lab, you never knew what was going to happen or if you’d be able to access your file remotely from the cloud. I like to be safe and have numerous copies.
  • External Hard Drive. My computer could not handle the amount of files I needed for class projects, which is why I opted to use an external hard drive. I use the LaCie Rugged 2TB External Hard Drive for storing completed projects I no longer need on my computer.
  • Earbuds. Some may opt for using wireless, Bluetooth earbuds (like AirPods,) but I prefer having a cheap pair of earbuds with the cord that I can plug into the computer. That way, I can edit videos without disrupting my classmates and I don’t have to worry about losing an expensive pair of earbuds.
